Millennials Might be the Poorest Generation But These Young Billionaires are Leading in Tech

A lot has been said about how millennials got the short end of the stick when it comes to the financial power they have compared to older generations. They can’t afford homes just yet and are saddled by expensive student debts, for starters.

Looking past this stereotype of the typical millennial, those born between 1981-1996, there are many outliers. In fact, these 57 or so individuals, as identified by the Pew Research Center, boast of earning the distinction of being a billionaire despite their relatively young age.

Here are some millennial billionaires under the age of 30, whose success and hard work would surely inspire you.

Elisabeth Furtwaengler

Furtwaengler is a board member of her father’s company, according to Forbes

Not many Americans may know Elisabeth Furtwaengler, but the 28-year-old’s family controls a good deal of media assets in Germany and the rest of the world. Burda Media Group reportedly owns more than 600 media-related companies across 24 countries.

The heiress herself owns about a quarter of the major corporation. She has a net worth of an estimated $1.2 billion.

Evan Spiegel & Bobby Murphy

Seemingly following in the footsteps of Facebook CEO, who founded his billion-dollar social networking site before dropping out of college, Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy developed their own golden ticket idea while in school.

Years later, the now-29-year-old Spiegel and 31-year-old Murphy are self-made billionaires thanks to the success of Snapchat. They respectively have a net worth of $1.9 billion each and retain 18% ownership of their brainchild.

Jonathan Kwok

Meanwhile, reigning in the East Asian real market is 28-year-old billionaire Jonathan Kwok. His holdings include stakes in companies like Empire Group Holdings Limited and Sun Hung Kai Properties.

The property magnate from Hong Kong is reportedly worth $2 billion with some sources claiming $2.1 billion.

John Collison

Irish tech entrepreneur John Collison is no stranger to hard work. In fact, he actually founded his payment software Stripe when he was just a teenager.

By 29, his efforts have certainly paid off considering his $3.2 billion fortune. He notably went to but dropped out of Harvard University like another millennial billionaire we know: Zuckerberg.

Gustav Magnar Witzoe

Saving the youngest for last, here’s Norway’s Gustav Magnar Witzoe. At just 26 years old, he has become a co-owner of SalMar, one of the largest producers of farmed salmon in the world. When he isn’t busy helping the family business, the young billionaire models, being signed under Next Models Worldwide.
